Artist Statement of Blue Green girl creations

Sunshine Coast artist, Natalie Blackman is Blue Green Girl who creates wall art

Hi, I am Natalie Blackman, blue green girl from the Sunshine Coast, Australia. I suppose you can say, I am a self taught visual artist. Although I don’t really believe that we are solely self taught, we are constantly nurtured and directed by experiences, people and environments. I would have to say that I have been tutored by some casual group painting classes, life experience and my art practise.

In the adult art classes, we were likeminded people and were free to create what we wanted with some guidance from an inspiring teacher . I would say that I have always been visually motivated and gravitated to colour and pattern. As an introvert, I am happy to soak in my surroundings; natural and urban. I have always taken a liking to fashion, interior design and photography.

Some people drew and created art from an early age but that wasn’t really me. I felt like I was a maker rather than an artist. I am happiest when busy with my hands and working on a project. In my early years, I liked decorating diaries, rearranging and decorating my room regularly, and I gravitated to crafts. I come from a long line of makers; my paternal grandmother was a talented crocheter, my father was a bricklayer and now a talented potter and my mother in always busy with her hands and writing beautiful poetry,

My art reached a new level of devotion and attention when I experienced a particular hard episode of depression and anxiety, I reached out for solace. As a mother of two creative boys, I have been busy with child rearing. Now I am able to stretch my wings more and put my art out into the ether. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it.
